- Flickr - help users create their own values.
- Google - free search.
- Facebook - network effects.
- Amazon - monetize investments already made for the Web.
Characteristics:
- from being passive viewers / readers to collaborative contributors / creators.
- from how many things you can find to how many thing you can do / combine / interact / remix / customize, etc...
The freemium business model:
- Give your service away for free
- Acquire a lot of customers very efficiently through word-of-mouth, referral networks, organic search marketing, etc...
- Offer premium priced value added services of your service to your customer base.
